Steps To Take When You Knocked Out a Permanent Tooth

Knocking out a permanent tooth can be a scary problem to have! When you’re experiencing a dental emergency like this one, it’s important to work with your dentist in Colorado Springs, CO. At Rangewood Dental, we help patients to take care of their teeth after a dental emergency occurs. Here’s what you need to know about steps to take when you’ve knocked out a permanent tooth.

1. Find the Tooth and Clean It

Find the tooth, wherever it is. If it isn’t in your mouth, you’ll need to find it on the floor or furniture around you. Hold the tooth by the crown. Once you’ve found the tooth, clean it by holding it under running water or in milk. Do not touch the root of the tooth, as this can damage the tooth.

2. Put the Tooth Back In

Put the tooth back in the socket that it came out of. Put it in the hole root first. Once the tooth is back in, bite down gently to keep the tooth in place. If you’re unable to put the tooth back in the socket, put it in your cheek pouch and hold it there. If you’re unable to do that, put the tooth in a cup of milk.

3. Contact the Dentist and Rush to Get Help

The faster you can see the dentist, the better. If you can get to the dentist within a half hour of the tooth being knocked out, your dentist may be able to put the tooth back in. Call your dentist to let them know you’re having a dental emergency services in Colorado Springs, CO, and you’re on your way!
